Smart Lightbulbs
A connected lightbulb can be turned on and off through a device that is also connected to the network or through commands that are sent to the bulb over bluetooth. If connected to your network, the lightbulb itself is setup like you would a computer or smart phone to grant it access to your home internet. Each bulb has a unique identifer so that commands to control the lightbulb can be sent to the right bulb.
Beyond simply turning on and off many smart lightbulbs can change colors. Since the color choice can be configured by the user, this typically means you can choose from over 16 million colors.
On/Off, colors, and dimmable! You can send a command to the lightbulb to specify how bright you'd like the light to shine.
Often times the makers of smart lightbulbs will have a companion mobile application where you can go to control the lightbulb.
